Scrub-a-Dub, a Baby in the Tub

A few night ago I was giving Kayton a bath, her first real bath since she was born. I had given her two baths before, but they were only sponge baths because her umbilical cord hadn't fallen off.

For this bath I filled up a plastic tub with water and baby soap and plopped her gently in. Well, I didn't think about the fact that skin is very slippery when wet and that with her squirmeyness that she wouldn't stay in one spot. My logic in giving her a "real" bath wasn't very logical at all. Luckily Neight was home and I was able to get his help. I held her while he rinsed the bubbles off of her, but not before he could get some pictures.

Surprisingly during this whole ordeal Kayton stayed very calm and didn't mind being in the water, that's good news for when we get a bath tub that will work for these kinds of baths.

Kayton Mikael

This post is pretty long and I won't be mad if anyone skips straight down to the pictures.

Our sweet baby girl, Kayton Mikael, decided to grace us with her presence on Friday, June 15th at 9:23 am. She was 7 lbs 1 oz and 20 inches long.

I went into labor around 2 Thursday afternoon while I was at work. The contractions I was having weren't super bad and were between 20 and 30 minutes apart so I really didn't think anything about it. Once I got home around 7, the contractions really started to hurt. Neight's grandparents were in town for a semi-annual visit, but it also happened that they planned it around Kayton's birth and Neight's graduation. Because we don't get to see his grandparents very often they took us out to dinner. It was really nice to talk with them about our lives and how they are doing in their retirement, but I kept getting distracted by how painful and close together the contractions were.

Around 10:30 Thursday night I decided we should probably go to the hospital, although, while I was making me decision I kept thinking how I really didn't want to be one of "those" women who went to the hospital and have it turn into a false alarm. It's a good thing that we went to the hospital when we did because it was a 45 minute drive and on the way the contractions got even worse! Luckily I had preregisterd with the hospital so it was easy admittance.

Once in the hospital the nurse that was assigned to me checked me to see how dilated I was and after two hours with no progression she wanted to give me a shot of pain medication and send me home. I explained to her that we lived 45 minutes away and by the time we got back to our house we would probably have to turn right around and drive back to the hospital. Once we had this discussion the nurse said she would call the doctor that was on call to see what she had to say. Luckily the doctor said to give me the shot of morphine there to help me relax and see where I was after an hour. Thankfully after the morphine I was able to relax and progress super fast! After the hour of waiting the nurse moved me into an actual labor and delivery room where I was able to relax a little bit more.

There was only one set of contractions that were bad enough to make me cry, and it was right after the nurse had told me she wanted to send me home, which made me super frustrated.

After moving into the labor and delivery room Neight got some sleep and I tried to sleep between the contractions. Around 5:00 Friday morning I asked for the epidural because the pain was quite a bit more than I wanted to deal with. I was exhausted and ready to sleep. Once I got the epidural the event became super easy and not stressful at all!

Around 7:00, right after the shift change, the doctor came in and said it was time to get things finished. So, 7:30 he broke my water, 8:30 I started pushing, and 9:23 our beautiful baby was born. She was and still is so perfect!

Neight was so fantastic the entire time! I don't know that I would have been able to get through it without him. He let me squeeze his hand during the contractions and was so supportive during the delivery! He even cut the umbilical cord :) I wish there were words to describe how awesome he was, but I don't even know where to start. I guess once a woman is in labor it makes my feelings easier to understand.

Unfortunately we didn't make it to Neight's graduation because it was Friday afternoon, but Kayton did come in time for Father's Day :)

Here are a few of the many pictures we've taken in the last two and a half weeks. I am very biased and cannot get over how beautiful and perfect Kayton is. She has stolen my heart <3

Memorial Day, Without Camping

Can you believe it's already Memorial Day???? I can't! This year has already FLOWN by! Probably because Neight and I are spending our time looking forward to the baby coming! There's only 2 weeks left! Neight continues to tell me that he wants Baby K to come early, but I don't (and kind of hope) that it won't happen. As much as I tell myself I'm ready for labor it still really makes me nervous to think about it. It's crazy to think that a year ago Neight and I were looking forward to taking our trip to Disneyland and this year we're looking forward to having our baby.

Usually over Memorial Day we go camping with my Dad's family. Last year we broke the tradition and went to Echo with our friends Brett and Allie. It was a lot of fun, but SO miserable because it rained from the time we got there until the time we left. This year because I'm 38 weeks pregnant we decided to not even try, even though we bought a camper so we probably would have been fine with the cold, but I don't want to be hours away from a hospital. My Dad's family decided not to go camping this year either, so I don't feel like we missed out on too much.

Today my Dad and Neight are working in the nursery getting it ready to go. There's just a little left to do, they're texturing the walls that they built and getting things ready to paint. The only problem with this is that there is dust from the mud in the ENTIRE upstairs. I was up there for about an hour when they first started, but I couldn't handle the dust anymore. It was making me crazy and I felt the urge to clean, so I moved downstairs where I've spent the majority of the day. It's much cooler and I have a TV and computer, so it's not horrible. It also keeps me sane. There wasn't any point to clean upstairs because it will just continue to get dirty until they are finished for the day. It's a good thing they're doing this before the baby comes instead of her first few weeks here at home. I will be happy when it's finished. I should have taken pictures before they started in there, but I didn't. I'll post some of the room when it's finished for sure.

Later tonight Neight and I are going over with our puppy to my parents for a bbq. I love spending time with my family and it's never a dull moment with my sisters. I'm also looking forward to getting all of the dust off of my floor and flat surfaces upstairs ;)

Week 34

Time is winding down and the final countdown is almost here. I have a doctor appointment next Monday, one two weeks after that, and then every week after that! So scary! But so exciting! Every day I feel a little less nervous about the baby coming. I just have to keep the mind set that millions of women have given birth before and that I can totally do it! AHHHH!!!! I'm finally starting to buy things and get ready. A few weeks ago I was super stressed and anxious about the baby coming and having nothing, so that weekend when Neight and I went grocery shopping we bought a package of diapers, wipes, and some onesies. It really helped my stress level out, and we even decided what I need to do when I go into labor. With Neight working 45 minutes away and out on service calls we decided that if I'm at home or at work I just need to get myself to the hospital and he will meet me out there. If I can't drive because the contractions are too strong then I have a tree of people to call to help me. I really hope that my labor starts at night or on a weekend when Neight is with me. It might even be a blessing if the doctor decides to induce me so I can pick the day and Neight will be with me.
I found this cute fleece a while back and decided I would make a blanket for the baby. Yesterday I finally put it together! One more thing that's ready for the baby :D

When Neight and I were shopping we found this awesome shirt. The smallest size we found was 12 months, but I sitll had to buy it. It was too hilarious to pass up.

Birthday, a New Job, and Valentines

February is usually a busy month for us, with Neight's birthday on the 8th and Valentines on the 14th. It is especially busy this year with Neight also starting a new job!

For Neight's birthday I tried so hard to set up a surprise for him, and as hard as I tired to keep it a secret until his birthday he still found out. See, I had been planning this birthday surprise for him since November so in theory it should be flawless. Well, it wasn't. Far from actually. I had planned to take him out to dinner at his favorite restaurant, Happy Sumo, and then to Anniversary Inn for a night away before the baby comes. Well, the Monday before his birthday he was asking me some questions about it and said "If we're going to stay someplace over night, what are we doing with the dog?" I FORGOT THE DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so upset and rushed through the different people I could pawn her off on ;) Luckily Neight thought of my parents and how she could sleep in their backyard that night. Zildjin loves to spend time outside so I figured it would be a good plan, but I was still terrified that she would bark all night long and my parents would decided that they never wanted to watch her again. Luckily my mom was gracious enough to let us drop her off for the night, my dad was kind enough to put carpet in her kennel and a tarp over it to keep it warm, and THANKFULLY Zildjin didn't bark all night long. I'm so lucky to have such awesome parents :) Even though I couldn't quite pull off the surprise it was still a nice night and Neight says he enjoyed it. The weekend after his birthday we went to Rodizio Grill with some friends and had a really great time. One of these years I'm going to tell the restaurant that it's his birthday so they can play the cool drum for him :) The meat was delicious and the grilled pineapple was heaven. It's pretty fun when I can eat just as much as the men do, I just hope it doesn't stay that way after the baby is born.

Neight started a new job on the 13th and loves it. He tells me it's completely different from Geek Squad and very much laid back, which is better for his stress level right now. Especially while he's trying to focus on school. Speaking of school, my due date is June 10th and Neight's graduation ceremony for his Associates Degree is June 13th, talk about nerve racking! Anyway, this job is a foot in the door to his ideal career and will help us out in the long run, I hope. I'm not sure exactly what  he does, he comes home and tells me about the activities of his day, but 90 % of the time I don't understand anything he's talking about, but I still listen and ask questions when I think I will understand the answer :) Neight is trying to stay at Geek Squad a few nights a week, but by the time he has a day off he will have worked 21 days straight between his new job and Geek Squad. I don't know how long Geek Squad will stay if it's a continual thing where he doesn't get a day off for three weeks. I do appreciate all he is doing for me and the baby, but I need him to stay healthy and sane ;)

With Valentines day being in the middle of the week Neight worked all day and I had school all day so we didn't do anything super special, which is fine with me because we should be expressing our love all year long, not just on Valentines day. Although, when I got home from school that night Neight did give me a present :) It was a box of rice crispy treats that leave a space for you to write on the wrappers. Well, in this box of 40 Neight went through and wrote Valentine's sayings (kind of) on all of the wrappers for me :D It was the cutest thing! It is a much more thoughtful gift than flowers or chocolates because he actually had to think about it :) It made my day. I am one lucky girl :)

That's our update for now. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to check on the baby. Neight and I are still trying to decide on a name. We've come up with a few that we like, and I think I even have a favorite picked out, but I don't want to say "that's her name" and then find one I like more. I still have 4 months to figure things out, although, those four months are going to FLY by! Now I need to get moving and clean the house, make the grocery shopping list, and I should probably work on my homework, even though it's super hard to find motivation this semester.
Here's a picture of me last week at week 23

Baby News!

Two weeks ago I had my ultrasound where the doctor found out the measurements of the baby and we got to find out the gender. It was very interesting and our baby was stubborn at first and wouldn't cooperate, big surprise, right? After the ultrasound tech got all of the needed measurements she told us that our baby had it's legs crossed, but she would find out the gender for us because she likes the challenge. About a minute after that she told us that we're having a girl. At first I thought about asking her to check again because she had said just a few seconds earlier that the legs were crossed. Then I looked over at Neight to make sure he was ok with it, because he said he wanted a boy. After our appointment he said that he knew it was a girl, because anytime he had thought about our baby up to that point he had thought the name that we had picked out for her.
Now that we know the gender, I can't decide on a name that I like. I keep saying that I have a few more months, but honestly I need to decide, or at least have a few picked out for when she's born. Now we get to start on her nursery :)
Here are a few pictures from the ultrasound

It looks like she's blowing smoke, but it's actually her fist. She loves to put her hands and arms by her face.

This is a picture of my baby bump the day before the ultrasound at 22 weeks. I swear I've doubled in size since then, or at least, that's what it feels like.
